I posted a query to the White County, IL mailing list about Joseph Edgar Carter. But what came out of it was the were abouts of John and Bertha at the time of the 1910 census. Marsha found them in New Madrid County, MO. John was listed as a laborer at a sawmill. Also living amonst them was Huffard and Wallace families. I haven’t heard back yet, but I am willing to bet that the Wallace family is Theodore and Stella Wallace. Stella is the sister of Bertha. I am not sure if there is any connection to the Huffards.

I talked to my father and he does remember them talking (when he was a kid) about taking the wagons down to Arkansas. He also remembers his grandfather talking about working in a saw mill.
